After her fame, she got important part on the shows Shanghai Noon (1998) and Charlie's Angels (2000). She gave a stellar performance as Japanese gangster O-Ren Ishii (Quentin Tarantino) in Kill Bill Volume 1 by Quentin Tarantino. During this time, she played the lead in a few flops at the box office such as Rise: Blood Hunter. Then, she was voice actor in animated films, including Kung Fu Panda. Mia Mason's part on Cashmere Mafia, a small screen film, failed to yield positive results. Southland, a critically acclaimed series of police dramas that included Liu in multiple role, allowed her to reaffirm her role as an actress. Liu selects her roles carefully so that she doesn't become a typecast character in such a competitive field. While she's been embracing the roots of her family, she hasn't let them hinder her creativity.
