Dolly Parton, who was born in Locust Ridge Tenn. on January. 19. 1946, into a low-income family, with twelve kids at one point, realized that she was able to escape suffering through her vivid imagination. Before she could write and read, she was making up the songs she wrote herself. In 8 years, she was playing her first guitar. In the age of 11 she started singing at Knoxville Tenn's local radio station. In the same year, she recorded her debut album for Gold Band Records an independent small-scale label. While still in highschool, she made her name locally but dreamed about a larger stage. On the very day she was able to graduate from high school, it was 1964. Dumb Blonde, Something Fishy and Dumb Blonde both charted on Monument Records in 1967. At about this time Porter Wagoner was looking for the next girl to perform on the show he had syndicated to television. Parton joined Grand Ole Opry 1969 after signing with RCA Records.
